Pros

Exposure to interesting projects and colleagues from around the world. Fast-paced. Some senior managers were open to learning about the Canadian work environment.

Cons

Much of management, with a few key exceptions, was not open to understanding how different Canadian employees and clients are from their European, African and Middle Eastern counterparts. The result was a chasm between management and employees as well as between management and their Canadian clients. Ultimately, this was catastrophic for the business as Saipem Canada lost its key clients when economic conditions deteriorated. There was a lot of blaming about "lazy Canadians" and "difficult clients" which was unproductive. The most recent HR department leadership is incompetent.

Pros

Great responsibility for offshore operations and quay-side mobilizations. Less technical role (no direct engineering performed), but more so, practical experience-driven when executing onsite.

Cons

Lots of reading and writing (Purchase Requests>Purchase Orders>Final contracts). Bureaucratic procurement (SAP and Word/Excel heavy) and poor interdepartmental follow-up: you have to do the follow-up when the assigned project inspector and expeditor (POSE) don't follow up on your PO. High workload.
