Pros

Used to be proud of working there. It was a great company that really cared about their employees. Remote work, Exposure to different departments, great people really interested in helping

Cons

Extreme micromanaging, toxic positivity, no appreciation, no career development, instability and constant quiet layoffs, AI being pushed constantly, senior leadership setting you up for failure, unrealistic expectations. They want you to be a robot or they will replace you, and they are clear about it.

Remote first culture. If you want freedom of location and a company to truly mean and support it - this is the place.

Cons

Constant change. Nothing to hold on to in this role, compensation, KPI's, tools all change every quarter.

Pros

Legacy Shopify ICs and lower-level managers are excellent and generally quite nice (company's Canadian after all) Caliber of engineering talent is generally high Dev-friendly stack (Ruby/Rails) Bleeding-edge AI adoption with unlimited token budget

Cons

Recently brought over a CTO from Microsoft: he brought with him a lot of not-at-all-nice people who are highly political, frequently rude/condescending to legacy Shopifolk, and make consistently bad/dev-hostile technical decisions Bleeding-edge AI adoption is being used to justify unreasonably increased expectations
