Great People, Upsetting C-Level Decisions

Pros

- Best people I've worked with in my career - Atmosphere encourages individuals to contribute. At least on my team, everyone was valued highly and their contributions were clearly appreciated.

Cons

- The way they handled the layoff was upsetting and off-putting - C-Level actively blocks features like listing personal pronouns in all software, citing the reason "it might make people uncomfortable". This isolates queer people and has been an ongoing fight within Epic for a long time. When Epic bought other companies like Mediatonic, Bandcamp, and Psyonix, who already had those features active as a part of their workspaces, they were revoked.

Pros

- fantastic health benefits - well-known company - professional development budget

Cons

- Unrealistic and uncommunicated expectations - extreme lack of resources - micromanaged and condescended to one minute, then left stranded the next. No support from upper management - Zero effective onboarding - Lots of mistruths and constant changes of focus
