Great Experience, but Employees are not Valued

Pros

Great Employees. Challenging and exciting work. Beautiful Campus. Fun and unique work culture. Good pay and benefits.

Cons

Terrible work/life balance. Don't plan on having a life outside of Epic if you work there. Employees are not valued and treated as a dime a dozen. Too many people without proper management and career experience are in positions of leadership, and there is a very secretive management culture.

Pros

-Amazing people. Everyone who leaves says that they will miss the people because they have the most amazing work ethic, nice personalities, and are extremely smart. - Anonymity. I've been able to find a project and say "This bugs me, I'll fix it" so many times since I started here. I'm literally responsible for everything that I want to be responsible for. - Great salary, especially for a first job out of college - As I work here longer, the project management gets easier and my workload decreases. - I've seen so many great places with all the travel. From Amsterdam to Hawaii and everywhere in the US between them. I was able to add on personal travel to many trips and I've taken trips home to my parents place since I had a customer there

Cons

- Most people talk about the hours, but it is what you make it. No one is ever going to stop you from working more hours, so it's up to you to figure it out. Once you figure out what you have to accomplish by the end of the day and what can wait, you'll be fine. - Things change very rapidly (they have to). As soon as we put a new implementation process into place we change it based on someone's idea, rather than piloting, or letting processes that aren't broken be.

Pros

They have great food and a beautiful campus, and the coworkers generally all got along

Cons

The management is inept, hiring their friends instead of people who really understand what it's like to work. The salary is great, which I guess they use as leverage to make people work longer hours -- and, as those they hire are typically new to working real jobs, we do. One of my coworkers actually brought a sleeping bag (but didn't use it) and worked 24 hours straight -- I came to his manager as a warning, who told me he would talk to him...When he did, he congratulated him. The work-life balance is non-existent -- they expect Epic to be your life. With good people and good food, it's hard not to -- but I think it's unhealthy for a job like this to be your life. Also taking advantage of the salaried employees, they expect them to take on more than their job title. They encourage "creativity" but what they really want is for you to give your whole mind, body and soul to the company. I love Judy, the CEO: she does this, and it makes sense. But it doesn't make sense for the people just starting to be under so much pressure.
