Pros

After working here for 5 years, you get a one-month sabbatical that Epic helps you pay for. Nice environment/building.

Cons

There's no opportunity for advancement aside from becoming a team leader. It's sort of a dead-end job. Also, I have no clue how they choose who they hire. Some people they hire are under qualified and I know for a fact that better people apply. They seem to turn away very qualified people and ask for employees to refer friends all the time but usually reject them in the long run.

Pros

Starting pay is pretty good, at least for the technical roles. The non-technical roles start lower but seem to get much larger raises, but that may have something to do with a higher burnout rate. Company is very "flat" which has it's pros and cons. Management will listen to your ideas if they have merit. Want to teach a class? Go ahead. Have an idea for a new piece of software functionality? We'll listen to you.

Cons

They do not hire into management. You can work very long hours and no one will really care. You have to really self-advocate (i.e. say "no") in a company of 3000+ employees that's bigger than it realizes. The company's growth seems to be outpacing its ability to maintain good communication and organization between different groups. All the software works together, and it's important to know what the other guys are doing. This is not always possible. Technical team leads are often sorely lacking in people skills, and this is frustrating if like feedback when starting a new job. Mine has trouble giving me direct eye contact, he looks around the room from left to right when talking to me, which is a bit unnerving.

Pros

Epic has a very good support system and a company culture that encourages helping your coworkers. And if you like to travel, this is an ideal entry level job.

Cons

When you're at Epic, you will work. They're quite honest about that in the interview, so it's not as if you're blindsided. Your life will most likely revolve around work and you'll spend more waking hours thinking about your work than anything else (and yes, I am including the weekends). Also remember: Epic is located in Verona, WI. Madison is nothing like a larger city in terms of entertainment options, but if you're looking for cultural experiences, you won't be disappointed.
