Pros

Make a real difference in the world Improve patient's lives and healthcare Work with intelligent, driven people The company philosophy is visible in every day actions and the culture.

Cons

You're expected to work hard and make a difference. If you don't care about health care, this is hard. If you do care about health care, it is very rewarding.

Pros

High autonomy; Merit-based compensation and incentives; Huge impact / meaningful work; Early growth opportunities; Very competitive compensation (given the cost of living in Madison especially); Madison itself (top 3 places to live in US); Working with smart people; New challenges every week.

Cons

If you work at Epic, you will likely work hard... but I honestly feel like you "reap what you sow. ". Remember that saying "Yes, if..." or "No" is OK if your workload is already very high - Epic hires a lot of bright, motivated individuals who have the tendency to take on more than they can handle and feel like they can't offload some of their work after the fact. If you can manage your workload and put in the extra effort when necessary, you'll do great.

Pros

Get to work on important software that makes a difference. The impact of what you do is apparent and you're given autonomy and ownership to accomplish your goals. Really makes you feel like your work is valued and trusted. I really like that I get to take ownership of designing and following through on my development visions. Also a great work environment with smart, fun people.

Cons

Time management is very important and I think some struggle when they first start with it. If you don't learn when to say no and how to prioritize and plan your work, you can easily take on too much. Over time I found a good balance with this.
