Pros

My experience has overall been very good. My peers are capable, the food is a steal, and the campus is nice. I've had multiple TLs in my tenure, and all of them are knowledgeable in their functional areas and willing to help rather than command.

Cons

The extreme weather policy was not great. I'm glad they changed it after the feedback. Epic also likes to run a little understaffed which means that timelines can be a bit too aggressive.

Rewarding but Stressful

Pros

The pay for a software developer is very high compared to almost all other companies, with excellent medical insurance on top of that. Fellow employees are hard-working and smart, and the environment is mostly friendly. The food at the eateries is excellent, as long as you avoid the "nutritionally focused" dishes. I think the CEO, Judy, genuinely cares about people.

Cons

Epic is a large, established, company, so, as is probably common in all such companies, as a software developer you can expect to spend most of your time fixing other people's bugs in derelict code that should have been refactored decades ago. Also, Epic has a culture of stressing out employees to get more productivity out of them by constantly hammering them with arbitrary due dates that rarely tie into any kind of customer commitment. Managers are hit in miss: a great manager can make working much more enjoyable, and a terrible one can make it miserable.
