Pros

Typically relaxed and flexible working environment.

Cons

High expectations for promotion but poor salary performance and little to no investment in staff training and skills, very hesitant to approve budgets for additional courses, travel etc when related to research staff. Moving to reduce scope and flexiblity of research roles at the time I left. Additionally, very little investment in improving core research offering. Tended to respond to new threats by tacking on additional service/datapoint or area for research with no corresponding increase in headcount or spend on additional tech. Significant investment plowed into DIY internal versions of tech that was already being developed by larger incumbents (e.g. storecheck tools, forecasting software).
