Pros

A job in IT provides decent pay for little actual effort, as leadership is so corrupt that nothing ever actually gets off the ground. So the benefit is, if you are looking for a steady paycheck while you train for a better position somewhere else, this is one place you can get it. If you want a very serious challenge at maturing an organization from the inside out, this would be a prime candidate, but there is really no entry point where you could accomplish this before you were pushed out. The other reason is, discounts on hotel accommodations through Hotels.com.

Cons

The leadership in IT is corrupt. Politics occupy the majority of their time, an this results is a very distorted view of what is going on in IT and product development. Unfortunately these same people hold all the keys to change, so its like being in a car driven by someone who is intoxicated, will not listen to you, and is separated from you by a plate glass window. As an individual contributor, there is no recognition program - your work is absorbed and added to the resume of your leadership. The culture is dominated by a general lack of trust, and and an unwillingness to work as a team.

Pros

Opportunity is plentiful at Expedia, you can make your path if you have the patience and ambition.

Cons

Little communication, management seems to look at their teams to take fault in lack of direction. Zero trust, once you have been with the company for some time you realyze that teams have thier own agenda and don't trust other teams from having other sit over your shoulder and take off with your work and put thier name on it. no team work, lack of vision of the "team" winning and focuses on individual successes. On the positive, you do have a few that attempt, but then back tot he negative they burn out and move on.

Pros

The product is amazing and the people creating the product are brilliant. The office locations are truly a site to see. The UK headquarters were in Soho, London and are now in Covent Garden. The office in Montreal is 20 paces form the Notre Dame. The view from US Headquarters is all of Seattle. From a technology perspective the company is bleeding edge and the developers are always creating better ways to present our product to the consumer. Internal development teams design workflow tools that rival our ecommerce solutions. It is a pleasure to tell people you help deliver Expedia to the world.

Cons

Expedia is a vacation spot for inept leadership. I have seen numerous millionaires come into Expedia and waste millions of dollars with little to no thought going into their decision making process. There is absolutely no long-term vision. The review process for employees is based solely on the 'what have you done for me lately' model of management. There is a huge separation between senior management and the teams working to keep the business online. Communication is non-existent unless a leader is blaming an employee for failure to accomplish a goal they never delivered. I can't imagine that any technology leader at Expedia has been successful outside of the work place.
