Where the Mediocre Get Ahead & Excellence is Avoided

Pros

Fortinet has some very good products. The pay is in the mid to upper levels, and the benefits were excellent. The new HQ looks nice and is pleasant to work in.

Cons

There's a huge problem with both cronyism AND nepotism, where many of the people hired are neither qualified nor capable. There's everything from previous models to reality show contestants to shoe salespeople handed responsibility for things they know nothing about. The qualified senior managers last about 6-9 months and then leave. Most cite the CEO's difficult nature and lack of business sense as the reason. Many senior executives who do stay with the company are there, because of their expert ability to flatter and say yes to the CEO.

Good place -- if you just want a work place

Pros

- Reasonable Salary, good benefits. - Work-Life balanced style. - No squeezing pressure and schedule. - VERY flexible and self-managed work hours ...(But also read in Con...).

Cons

- But, it's TOO flexible and self-managed work hours... thus difficult to find or gather people and teams during normal hours. - Lack of team works, and poor inter-teams communication and cooperation - Poor and fickle Management and Policy - Bad working cultures from China (Big-wok culture everywhere; Do more, wrong more... Do less, wrong less... So the best is do nothing then nothing wrong...)

Pros

Managers are helpful and friendly.

Cons

If you are a professional service engineer it costs you money to work with fortinet. When you travel to service their clients, fortinet makes the employee pay up front the money for all travel costs, which is on the low end 1000.00 for a 5 day trip. They eventually remburse you, week later. But when you are traveling every 2 weeks( one week on, one week off) it gets very costly. I guess they assume their employees dont have families or other bills to pay. If you turn down travel due to money its an issue. Salary doesnt put a dent in the costs they expect you to come out of pocket for travel. I just get home and am working all week remotely, then have to leave to travel again.
