Pros

Honestly, Google does almost everything within its power to attract and retain talent. Staff are generally paid well. Long tenure with the company generally means solid earnings growth. Benefits are great.

Cons

For folks working at the mothership and not living in Silicon Valley the commute is increasingly dire. Travel on tech shuttles from SF and Oakland now regularly takes 2 hours each way. Sounds like an overprivileged whine but it massively extends your workday and limits what you can do during the week.

Pros

* Great (friendly, smart and experienced) co-workers. * Big scale and thus interesting challenges. * Perks and benefits. * Somewhat bigger transparency in its internal politics. You can publicly criticize decision made even at high level. * Moving between teams is easy including into offices in other countries and cities.

Cons

* It is a corporation, so while it’s better than many, don’t expect rainbows without some rain. * If you don’t watch out, you can get sucked in and sacrifice work/life balance. You typically won’t be asked to do that though.
