Pros

I can honestly say that there are zero pros to working at Groupon.

Cons

Executive team lacks a clear understanding of how to effectively run the U.S. side of the business, as leadership is primarily based in Prague and seems disconnected from the realities of the American market. Their strategy to drive revenue growth by rapidly hiring a large Chicago-based BDR team has failed miserable. Turnover is extremely high (70+%) with most employees lasting only 4–6 weeks due to unrealistic KPIs and minimal support. The onboarding process is inadequate, and even during the learning phase, there is a strong emphasis on reasons for potential termination rather than development. Reaching OTE is highly unlikely. Commission payouts are rare, as the criteria for what qualifies as a closed deal are extremely narrow and strictly enforced per their deal guidelines. Additionally, any compensation tied to overall company performance has not been paid out for the past several years, effectively rendering that portion of earnings at 0%. This company will suck the life out of you.

Pros

No pro’s whatsoever. If you’re thinking about joining this company, save yourself a headache and run.

Cons

“Burn and churn” culture with minimal long-term investment in employees. Limited support and inconsistent coaching from management. Quarterly quotas frequently change, directly impacting compensation and making earnings unpredictable. Commission, if you’re lucky to get any, gets paid every 3 months- if terminated, you lose out on THOUSANDS of your hard earned money Compensation does not align with responsibilities—BDRs are often expected to perform full-cycle sales functions similar to Account Executives on a low base salary, ($40,000) Once placed on a performance plan, there is little path to recovery and increased scrutiny follows. High-pressure onboarding environment—new hires are expected to close deals quickly, with limited ramp time. Promotions appear inconsistent and not always based on performance, which can impact team morale and leadership quality. Concerns raised to leadership or HR are not always addressed in a transparent or timely manner.
