Pros

Good opportunities to work with very smart people and to make a difference. More people are starting to see the importance of interaction design. The benefits are decent enough as is the pay. Work life balance is good.

Cons

Management still shows its hardware, big company roots. Corporate culture is definitely conservative in many offices, so don't expect Google style perks and freedom. Typical big company administrative overhead and occasional upper management edicts which make little sense tactically.

Pros

Halliburton has a good reputation, relatively stable job, pay is good compared to other industries, company is profitable

Cons

Nationally: Training is a shadow of its former self, pay is not competitive, opportunities to move out of the field are no in line to what is promised during recruitment. Any company that makes you sign a 2 year bonus-repayment contract is having serious retention problems for a reason South Texas: Office environment resembles daycare, expected to work excessive hours when not in the field (in addition to working in the field), constant lies and BS from local management. My advice - if you're a recent grad take any other job offer that comes your way

Pros

Great training, some of the best out there. HR claims to spend $30,000 per worker in training. Boots on ground experience, gain a large understanding of the overall process. In the beginning the job seems easy because there tends to be a lot of downtime between stages.

Cons

After spending time there you will begin to notice their is a large double standard with everything they do. Their is 0 loyalty to their hard workers and most valued employees and will screw you over while working there or when you leave without even batting an eye. In the beginning you tend to not want to believe that but in due time you will come to the same realization that all senior (1+ employees) come to, they don't really care about you. Their business strategy is to train up tons of cheap labor to do the job and continually train up and bring new people. This is why there are very few senior individuals and people who actually know a lot about what is happening. They take away your pay, hours, and perks when times are rough (right now) despite the fact that last quarter was their best quarter ever. The promotion system is always changing and never ending thus making it very difficult to get a raise without diligent and focused effort (which most people cannot dream to have after working 100 hour weeks). And even once you complete everything, you have to have favor from upper management for them to even input you into the system for your raise. They also "promote" (without pay) people to positions of higher responsibility when they aren't ready or simply to fill the spot (because so many people are leaving or moving around all the time). To top it off, they are great at killing morale and not holding up to their promises. They also claim that they do not want to fire people. The reason for this is because if they fire you, they don't get to collect money from you when you leave. When you read and sign the contracts in new hire, be very careful about what you sign and always get a copy. Lastly, they are the lowest paying oil company in Williston and claim to have the best benefits (a farce). Just remember, this a great training company and not a good long term company to work for (unless you are upper management or HR).
