Short-sighted, and US-centric

Pros

Interesting work, decent colleagues. Package is not bad. Lots of emphasis on health and safety.

Cons

The company has an American mentality in dealing with employees, without regard to local law and practice. The recent tumble in oil prices has revealed how short-sighted the company is, eg. laying off permanent employees and hiring contractors to "reduce headcount". Very US-centric -- there are lots of career opportunities if you happen to be based in Houston, but forget it if you are elsewhere unless you are a field engineer. Lots of American expats sent by the company to go to rest of the world, with all expenses paid for and more. The CEO asks for ideas for cost-cutting while keeping his private jet... To top it off, appalling HR department who provide no support for employees, with no regard to ethics.

Pros

Worked in the Landmark PSL of Halliburton. Work/life balance way better than the rest of Halliburton. The only good thing is the unlimited sick days.

Cons

They will escort you out of the building the minute the oil price is going down. They practice a politic of number, they will not ensure to keep their best people. Consultants don't know how to collaborate. There is distrust between the different region, or PSL.

Pros

Flexible hours (so long as you don't let Supervisor/Manager make you feel guilty for leaving after nine or ten plus hours. Great benefits of health insurance.

Cons

Only Management gets bonuses - nothing is passed down to employees. Mid-management lacks people skills. If you aren't one of the "chosen" favorites by Supervisor/Manager, your work is unappreciated and you WILL be thrown under the bus to other departments and Business Unit Managers. Too much favoritism which means opportunities are not available to everyone - just the "chosen". Not everyone held accountable for responsibilities, policies, procedures. This practice is very obvious but very tolerated. If you rock the boat it makes it worse for you.
