Pros

For the majority of the many years (10+) I spent working for Hyatt I loved the company, the people I worked with and for, the team enviornment and the focus on community. For mid to upper management positions, Hyatt agressively promoted from within and had wonderful training opportunities. Salary was in line with other hotel companies for management positions and the benefit package was competitive.

Cons

Going public changed the company as did economic challenges in 2008 and beyond. I think a lot of decisions were made by GM's and Regional teams that were not in line with the culture that I had grown up with. The focus was revenue generation and cost cutting over all else I believe a company needs to be profitable but there were decisions made that crossed lines and effected the company in troubling ways for many years. When I left there seemed to be an "old boys club" atmosphere that was out of touch and often times offensive.

Pros

Hyatt hotels offer great travel benefits for employees. After one year of employment you are given 10 "comp nights" each year to use at just about and domestic Hyatt hotel pending availability.

Cons

I worked in a management position and worked an average of 70 hrs/week. There was a large emphasis on employee relations and satisfaction to a point where they were loaded with cash incentives to give great customer satisfaction. After three years of working in a few different hotels, my hours worked were only increasing and my quality of life decreasing. I then converted my annual salary into what I was making per average hour worked and found that I was making less than my lowest level employee and also well below CA minimum wage. That was the end.
