Pros
Excellent training ground. Good benefits. In many parts of IBM, there are good opportunities to pursue wider ranges of skills - both professionally and technically - that you might want to pursue. Just be sure that those goals and aspirations do not conflict in any way with your current assignment and duties, or it may get you rated lower and put your position in peril at the next cut back. You can still look for those opportunities, but unless your manager is better than average, keep the search to yourself until you have a done deal.
Cons
Long hours - the job will take whatever you're willing to commit to it. Increased outsourcing also leads to a fair amount of conference calls at odd hours to connect with Asia. There is a lot less ability for older workers to shift into new positions, even if they are a good skill match.
