"No bench" policy for consulting roles
Pros
Procedures are well defined and there are lots of training oportunities available on the intranet. The "open doors" environment works and everyone is treated respectfully. Great learning opportunities with global projects.
Cons
Very long hours (not always paid), huge problems with HR procedures - a year after I left I was still being questioned as per who has my notebook (even though I followed the leaving procedures to the letter). Another problem that is very much alive in IBM Brazil is the "zero bench" policy. That means that if you are not assigned to a client 100% of the time you will be fired. There is no time for training, no consideration for your unique skills or how many years you worked there or how hard you work. So, be careful: they will call you in to work on a Saturday night (even if you are not on call), but once the project is over you may find yourself with no job.
