A Masterclass in How to Burn Through Talent

Pros

- Market-rate pay - though they expect to own every waking hour in return. - Free lunch (strategically designed so you never leave the office). - Saying you work for a werewolf romance app never fails to get a reaction.

Cons

- One-man rule. Every decision, big or small, waits for CEO approval. - Question him once, and you’re gone - performance doesn’t matter. - Constant surveillance. Cameras everywhere. - Work-life balance is a joke; being on-call 24/7 is "rewarded." - Public image is shiny; reality is fear, turnover, and silence.

Pros

As the Director of Physical Production at Inkitt, I’ve appreciated the chance to build and refine production workflows in a fast-growing media company. The role is very hands-on, from budgeting and scheduling shoots to working directly with freelance crews and overseeing day-to-day logistics. No two weeks look the same, which can be both challenging and rewarding if you enjoy wearing multiple hats. One of the things I value most is the autonomy: there’s a lot of trust to design systems, solve problems, and adapt processes as the volume and complexity of projects scale. If you’re resourceful and comfortable navigating ambiguity, you’ll find a lot of room to make an impact here. The pace is intense, especially as new shows and initiatives launch, but the team is collaborative and genuinely invested in creating quality content. Overall, Inkitt is a good fit for people who like building structure in a creative environment and who are energized by constant change.

Cons

Priorities shift quickly as new projects roll out. If you prefer highly predictable routines, you may not be excited by the active pace. As the company scales, some processes and systems are still evolving, so you have to be comfortable with occasional ambiguity and figuring things out as you go.

Pros

- A lot of smart, hardworking, and fun people. we laugh often! - Exciting to be part of a company that's not just growing but thriving. We're creating products that people genuinely love, and it's rewarding to see the impact of our work. - Managers are supportive whilst really pushing you to perform at your best.

Cons

- Regular pains associated with startup life. Each day brings its own set of challenges. While this can be invigorating for those who thrive in such an environment, it's not for the faint of heart. You have to be resilient, adaptable, and ready to face the unexpected. - Coordinating with teammates across SF and Europe can be challenging due to the different time zones. - Things move really fast and you have to always be ready to switch gears and reprioritize when necessary.
