If you are a female - STAY AWAY

Pros

I made alot of great friends, and it was a good place to start after school. I feel a few people in management had my back and wanted me to succeed, even if a few did not. Great quality beef for a bargain.

Cons

I honestly loved working here at first, but then I started to see what goes on behind the scenes.... Women are paid substantially less than men in alot of situations. Men who talk football or wear cowboy boots are the people who are going to make money even if their contributions to the company are small, if not non-existent. The "chosen ones" get away with everything, but if anyone other than them have a concern, its generally swept under the rug or turned around on the person who has the issue, especially if you are a female. Several women have complained of HR dismissing concerns about male behavior and making it seem it is the woman's fault. Benefits are garbage, work life balance is a joke, you're made to feel ungrateful if you feel you are deserving of a raise and if you want to move up, forget about it because there is nowhere to go. If a promotion opportunity does show up, its unlilely you will get a fair shake at it, because its already decided someone's buddy will be given the job. Also, the old saying rings true - if you're good at your job, you get to do other people's jobs too. And no one will recognize you for it, it will be expected. Very few women in upper management, and this is not for lack of ability.

Pros

The pay is above average for the area, but total compensation is based heavily on bonuses. The leadership is very transparent with company performance.

Cons

Laughably small desk spaces (even for executives), terrible work life balance (minimum 10-12 hour days), no opportunity for flex time, poor benefits, and a leadership team with absolutely no leadership skills. If you like getting no direction, taking the lead, and then told you did it wrong, this place is for you!

JBS\Pilgrim's - The wrong career move

Pros

You're in the same boat with some really great people who are struggling with the same problems you are - incompetent management, way too much OT, no work life balance and way too small of a paycheck for the work you've done.

Cons

The ethics in this place are questionable at best. Top executives in Brazil including the founders decendents, gave bribes and gamed the system in that country resulting in billions in fines. Management in the U.S. likes to say that kind of thing isn't happening here but honestly most of the C Suite is full of people from Brazil who grew up in the company along side those who perpetrated the bribery and fraud. Top executives are also generally thought to be under qualified in the U.S. for C level management positions, so you do the math. Overall, I regret the three years I spent at JBS. I worked like a dog the entire time I was there just to have greedy middle managers take credit for my efforts. I was constantly asked to cut corners and several times was asked to do things I wasn't comfortable doing. I had no life, sometimes working 50+ hour weeks back to back with not recognition or thanks. My time there will always be remembered as the worst years of my career and for my family who never stopped supporting me through the constant bad days, weeks and even months. Now you might be saying to yourself "this person had a bad manager or bad team or a job they just didn't like. They aren't being objective!" to that I would say, I love what I do for a living and I have loved it for years before working for JBS and I'm sure I will love if for years to come at my new employer. And as for the bad department or manager thing, let me tell you this - if you make the same mistake I did come to work here you will be reminded of that mistake every Monday morning when HR brings sometimes as many as 20 new employees around on their traditional office tour. You will see their bright excited faces and you will think to yourself "another batch of suckers who are about to hate their lives". Why do I tell you this? Because most... let me say it again MOST of the people here are very unhappy. My experience wasn't the exception, it was the rule. It doesn't matter which department or manager you're interviewing with stay away! There is a bad culture at this company that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. It's not a when or an if you will be unhappy here, you will regret the decision, I'm 100% sure of it.
