Pros

The members are great! Yes, some look down on the cleaning crew, but most appreciate the hard work and effort. Overall, the operations crew is fun! We have all bonded and created a strong foundation within the supervisors and operations team. And overall, the job is manageable. If you don't care about how much you make and don't care about the occasional turd in the shower, it's not a bad job.

Cons

The leadership is some of the worst leadership I've ever experienced. Leadership, managers, the ones who oversee the supervisors and team members are so caught up in themselves, and never help, this is why the team had created a strong foundation underneath it all. Communication between management and the crew is nonexistent. The dedication to the teams success is laughable. We never see management and when we do, it's to either be told how little we do, how poorly someone else is doing, or they show up just to take up space and get in the way long enough to remind the crew, they're there. Even when management put themselves on the schedule to show they're gonna help out, they disappear or just don't show up. And, both the assistant and manager affirms so little time in the building, the supervisors have to run the show, ALL THE TIME. Oh, and last but not least, the hourly pay is so minimal, even as a supervisor, you can't make a living off of it. Also, because you're part of the cleaning crew, you are every other employees maid too. Because the operations leadership team, the managers, disrespect the team so much, so does everyone else.

Instructors, beware

Pros

club access and thats about it

Cons

Let me first say I've worked in the fitness industry for over a decade and I have never in my career felt so disrespected and devalued by any company. After two years of working part time as an instructor at LT, I was told that some of my other work outside of LT - which I had since before working there and was transparent on my resume - was suddenly a conflict of interest, so I was forced to drop some of my classes. Myself and several other instructors sustained injury due to poor construction at one of the clubs; management cared more about making sure we didn't say anything about it to members than making sure we were okay. I was told there weren't opportunities for me to pick up more classes, meanwhile other instructors were getting opportunities; there is no transparency here, only favoritism of their few pet inner circle instructors. Good luck if you ever wanted to talk to a manager, because 9 times out of 10 they just straight up would not respond to your messages. Despite trying to pick up more classes, I was terminated due to "inactivity" - no conversation, no email, no phone call to notify me. From start to finish, it was poor communication, poor organization, and unprofessionalism from management and corporate both. It was an open joke among instructors that this is a soulless, corporate hellhole where only the most useless, mindless, yes-men succeed. You can see this in corporate policy that values their bottom line way more than actual job performance: for example, they pushed us to sell supplements to the point that we wouldn't be eligible for an annual raise if we didn't sell any. It's a shame because the midwestern corporate team has access to some of the worlds best instructors here in NYC and would have so much potential for success if only they treated us right, but unfortunately, in my experience I was only treated as expendable.
