Pros

High profile company that is winning lots of work. Plenty of opportunity for interesting projects. A very expansive vision for 2020, double turnover, double staffing levels. Company has a very positive outlook. Benefit package is standard - car allowance, private medical, very good pension.

Cons

Projects tend to be understaffed ( too much work, too few staff). As a result work is stressful, hours long, and unfortunately the pay is not that special. No significant pay rise in three years. Lots of interdisciplinary politics - consultancy vs construction, retail vs private sector vs tech - the list is long. Too much silo working. If you're not in Moorgate then you are probably going to be forgotten from an advancement point of view.

Pros

working in a very technical and specialised field meant that Very Senior Managers left you alone because they hadnt a clue what it was all about, so lots of lone working but this meant that 'engineers' who know nothing if it doesnt have rivets and girders stood gentlemanly to one side and let those who know get on with it

Cons

at the mass induction day at some forlorn hotel conference facilty we were all asked what we had heard about Mace before joining - ie, whats the word on the street: I was shouted down by the roving HR people manning the ramparts when I said the 'the word on the street' is Mace will work you til you drop, suck you dry and then throw you out. Three years later after an average of 63 hours a week, every week that is, redundancy looms because of a return to 'core business'
