Exciting work, "boys club" culture

Pros

I worked in NIKEiD. The actual content and product that is produced is amazing. There is constant innovation and product will be added or dropped in a cut-throat manner to get the best out there for the consumer. The benefits are good, not great. A lot of the on campus benefits (gym, daycare, food) are amazing but cost a lot of money. You really get excited to work for the company and the employee store discounts are great.

Cons

The team I was on was full of guys who did not check their egos at the door. Very poor environment when it comes to collaboration. Horrible on-boarding process. You will have a great orientation and get excited about Nike, but some departments then throw you to the wolves. In my year there, direct or senior management changed 4-5 times. My job duties were never clear. The product lifecycle process was never clear. If you aren't a jock or super obsessed about sports, you may not fit in. Certain categories are given less attention or downright ignored in favor of the "cool" categories. Culture is all over the place ranging from tight teams to teams that barely communicate.

Pros

There are some very nice people working at Nike.

Cons

Support is not properly mapped out. Everyone is just winging it. There are no manuals to follow. They are still cleaning up PCs and Macs one machine at a time. There are no automated tools such as CCleaner and automated drive defragging to keep machines running. Employees should reboot machines weekly. Mac's should be reset (SMC and NV&Pram) every few months. Talking to the wrong person can get you fired. Taking gifts will result in firing. Not wearing Nike gear will get you fired. Employees must purchase their own Nike clothing at their own expense. I wear a size 3X shirt, which is nearly impossible to find. My shoes are 11 4E, which means I can never wear Nike shoes. At around $12/hr, it is not something an employee can afford. No training whatsoever is provided.

Pros

Great supportive Colleagues not just for games but also work deliverables. Open discussions with assistance provided by cross functional teams, Easy to get work done with people. You need to equally participate and energize in the team and be an active team player to contribute to the team's success.

Cons

Local processes/politics in leadership team and self-interest slow down decision making and hence hesitated and most of the time comprises on staff's energy and passion to Nike. "Once fire is extinguished, you need new spark on the objects & new reaction to start new fire."
