Pros

Working on the projects such as the development of texts in different subject matters. The people who you work with on the projects are amazing. You feel a sense of accomplishment when a project is complete and you know it will reach hundreds of people.

Cons

Too political. Too female-dominated, which can turn gossipy and competitive. Nepotism is an issue meaning those with less or no experience with a family/friend connection will always get the job. Salaries are very low. Not too many full-time positions. Mostly contract positions that can last years.

Pros

I think Nelson's median salary is a bit higher than other publishers, with opportunities for growth. Management are seasoned pros, so you can trust in the people giving you direction.

Cons

Favouritism from management to certain employees. If you're good at your job they'll keep you in that job forever, which is a real disincentive. Very few opportunities for higher positions as people tend to keep these comfortable roles for 10+ years. Any experience you get in the publishing industry is not really transferable to other industries.
