The AR space is niantic's to lose
Pros
This is the best place I've worked. And I've worked in a few places. Hard to say what the secret sauce is but there are a few things that might impact this. 1. meetings are prompt, and people work hard to keep them that way 2. we have some truly impressive people here and the engineering talent is top-tier 3. the people who are here, are excited to be here 4. The high standards from the core team that spun out of google remain in place, and a high bar needs to be cleared for hiring. 5. John Hanke is a good CEO. There is a ton of impressive stuff happening inside the company. And if only a small percentage of it pans out, it's still going to be huge.
Cons
The hardest part is coordinating with other teams in other offices. Niantic manages this better than every other company I've been in, but still, working across multiple offices still has frictions that being in one doesn't. Second, the secrecy around future projects cuts against the openness engendered everywhere else. I understand that this is important, but it's still a bummer.
