Pros
I think Okta has all the benefits of a fast paced, Silicon Valley startup (and all this while tackling the enterprise!). It's growing fast - both in the number of customers (big enterprise companies to boot), as well as the number of smart and talented people that get hired. There's lots of perks - unlimited PTO, office boardgames, and a break room with free snacks, a new espresso machine, and a fridge with a disproportionate amount of brands of green tea. It feels like an exciting place to work - every day we get emails about the new and recognizable companies that are now paying customers.
So that's the company. But, as an engineer, there's other things I care about - Will I work on something interesting? What are the teams like? Yes, and cool. I've worked on many projects at Okta - they've been challenging, rewarding, and have taught me to be a better coder. As we've grown, I've learned why automated testing is super important (especially as you ramp up hiring), and why you need a robust CI system. We release early and often, and get feedback quickly from customers. Asking questions is easy - I've found that the people that have been here for a while or are the experts in their area are more than happy to help out when you're delving into their code. It's a fun place to work, and you work on important things.
Cons
We're growing quickly, and with growth comes scaling issues. Things aren't always perfect in the moment, but I've seen management and engineering come together to fix things that are no longer working, and change it for the better.
