Pros

- Good WLB, work can start at ~9 and ends ~5 - Large impacting work and learn the "corporate talk" - Join if you want a cushy and "safe" (dependent on dept.) job

Cons

- As a Sr. PM, you are an order taker.. The % in which YOU can affect YOUR teams roadmap is only about 10%. - No good product framework for focusing on REAL USER ISSUES. Corporate loves to talk about NPS as data points but it's so generic. - All the product management principles, mindset, and design-think go out the window... Not used here because no one cares. Just take orders, do this project, and that's it - So much red tape and budget requirements for projects it's exhausting - A Sr. PM is a glorified proJECT manager - Mile-long email threads when you're looking for someone responsible for something else you're not responsible for. Everyone passes the potato and no one knows anything, ever. - Below average pay for a Sr. PM position compared to market, I'd say below about $40k what others are paying. - Benefits aren't even all that, honestly - Areas are so large that it's too big to fail. You can take forever doing something and no one will notice and no one says anything. Meaning that many departments do JUST ENOUGH to scrape by, because they can - It's laughable the mental gymnastics the "diversity and inclusion" group goes through when talking about government policy yet they don't even give Juneteenth as a holiday (and I'm a conservative)

Pros

You get to work from home but….(see cons) It seems like you get a lot of PTO but….(see cons) The computer equipment sent to you is decent.

Cons

You may get to work from home, and they may preach about work life balance, but in the end you have to stay and get your work done. There is a lot of work. The PTO sounds great when you are hired, but if you need one hour off you either a. have to take 4 hours of PTO or b. You get to tack that hour on to your day. Even if….you have been working over an hour for many days to get work done. The national training is great, but you won’t remember it. The local training in your office can be bad bc everyone is so busy and training someone is overwhelming. Even working from home “group think” mentality exists. People still talk about someone if they don’t like them. HR refers to employees as human capital. Need I say more ? My manager did not seem supportive or nice. I could literally go on forever but it seems they have adopted new start up culture for a huge company that is not new. They need your license, not your experience. Everything is so micromanaged, you are basically a data entry specialist not using your mental health experience.

Pros

It’s hard to see any pro when the morale is low and the high turn over rate in the team due to mental stress.

Cons

Optum/UHC does not truly care about their team’s wellbeings. They ignored team surveys, employees complaints because leaders of the business team received many formal complaints as well as complaints the employee surveys and nothing was done to solve the issues. This would never happen in any other corporations when leaders outright screamed at people in a meeting and threw curse words around, whether it is in team meeting or meeting with external clients. This level of vulgar, rudeness and unprofessionalism would never be acceptable in other companies and they would be on their way out no matter how high up they are.. Team members would rather take a pay cut than stay within the team. Noone dared to speak up or take accountability like they used to with fear of being screamed at in front of everyone. Leaders has no accountability and blame everyone else if anything does not go their way. Morale has gone downhill and people who are left still question why nothing has happened to the leaders. Work for this company at your own risk.
