Top Heavy Management Organization

Recommend
Business Outlook

Pros

Ability to work remote. Muscle of UnitedHealth Group. Bonuses (if your manager doesn't undercut you).

Cons

Too many Type A personalities. My manager was hyper-critical of everything I did...which is why I left the organization. There are way too many VPs and high end managers...it makes standard work approves a nightmare...since you have to go through so many levels to get approvals. There are also too many group changes...org charts change every other week.

Toxic Culture

Recommend
Business Outlook

Pros

Lots of good people. It's a good place to gain experience to take to your next employer.

Cons

Considering it's a healthcare benefits company, the health benefits are awful. Other companies using UHG insurance actually get better coverage. They have a nice set of cultural values, but only pay lip service to them. Current IT management is mostly toxic, politics driven, and self-centered. Employee surveys consistently call out a lack of trust in senior management, but why should they care? They still get their 5-figure cash bonuses. Get a good salary deal when you get hired, because you'll probably never get a meaningful pay increase, and promotions are almost unheard of, unless you know and suck up tot he right people. Offshoring as much as they can. I often wonder how they get away with it, as there's a lot of sensitive healthcare info in the hands of low-paid Indian and Filipino workers.

Pros

They have a lot of money, so getting software and hardware isn't much trouble.

Cons

The absolute worst health insurance plans I've ever seen. Seeing as how this company is a health insurance and health care provider, the fact that they offer such terrible insurance to employees demonstrates they have no value towards them. On top of that the plans are getting more expensive each year with worse deductibles. The more you make the higher your insurance rate, and also there is a penalty to insure a spouse if they are eligible for insurance with their employer.
