Pros

PRH is the biggest publisher, so you take the good of massive size with the bad. For publishing, the entry level pay and benefits are good. Working from home during the pandemic was well-supported and the company never made us feel like we had to choose our jobs over our health. The big benefit for readers is access to the interior library of books and manuscripts.

Cons

It's easy to get overlooked in such a big company, if you don't have a good supportive manager. There's a definite change in culture among management and upper management, who don't know or have forgotten what it is like to live in small apartments in the city while they tend to live outside the city - during the pandemic it seemed they weren't aware that while managers often had home offices, lower level employees would quite possibly have to work from atop their beds in studio apartments. The company is also overwhelmingly white and diversity initiatives move painfully slow, and company culture is quick to offer kudos for any small steps but hesitant to recognize missteps. Its also easy to feel left out of the loop if you don't like going for drinks.

Pros

Penguin Random House generally has a nice environment. People are respectful and kind. I work with a lot of team players who are always willing to help me complete a goal. We have a really nice benefits package and a lot of paid time off. The books we work on are magnificent and informative. I appreciate them. PRH often makes sure that we have the tools we need to do our jobs. The company is up to date on the latest technology and makes it easy for us to grow in our skill sets because of this.

Cons

Hiring and promotions have almost stopped the past few months because of COVID, and many of us are simultaneously struggling with the state of the world due to an international health crisis and doing two jobs for no extra pay. PRH needs to keep in mind their employees' mental health and well-being. It's not fair to make employees suffer during any already stressful time.

Pros

60% off books and study leave

Cons

-Very backwards and complete 180 compared to our US counterparts -Stale and lifeless environment - you can hear someone sneeze from the other side of the building - We are quite spread out in the office so it appears really lifeless -Lack of vision from CEO and leadership team - very out of touch and dont focus on the reader. -Highly political and if you're not located in Sydney then you'll have a hard time in swaying stakeholders -High turn over, well over 40 people have left this year alone and no one bats an eye -Promotions tend to go to those with lack of management skills as well as technical skills ...they're not even qualified for their roles yet they get promoted into them
