Pros

Boss and co-workers were amazing - Exciting to work for one of the most recognized brands - Casual, laid-back attire - Formed some great friendships

Cons

Playboy moved headquarters to LA leaving Chicago employees out of work - Constant layoffs - Sad to see the office close and witness first-hand the end of a Chicago era

Pros

Fun work environment, great subject matter, pro-feminist attitudes, more than 50% of workforce is female, amazing art collection

Cons

Just closed Chicago office and moved to LA. Sold off and licensed most of its business units. 10 years ago they had more than 500 employees. By 2013 I bet they have close to 50. They are outsourcing everything.

Pros

Location -- Great downtown location, with beautiful Lake Michigan views. Brand -- The rabbit head logo and the Playboy name are icons unto themselves -- recognized the world over. Work/Life Balance -- wanna come in late? no problem. wanna leave early? no problem. take a long lunch? no problem. you get the idea. People -- very friendly.

Cons

Cronyism -- Pretty crappy senior leaders hire their equally crappy friends from other places. Family-business -- It's a family-run business to this day. The problem is that they still don't know what sort of business they want to run. One day you're in the adult business, then they get embarrassed that they're in the adult business and declare themselves a lifestyle company -- whatever that means. Corporate -- Finance, Accounting, HR -- all three functions were ridiculously outdated. I don't think it's the fault of the workers in those groups -- they all seemed just as frustrated with the outdated systems and policies. I'm not really sure why these areas were so behind the times, just know that they were. Career Path -- There really wasn't any rhyme or reason to promotions. Some good performers got promoted, but just as many bad performers did too.
