Pros

Salary potential is through the roof. Exciting, fast paced environment. Trading platform and research availability are very solid. Corporate travel and satellite work usually ok.

Cons

Very difficult to get your foot in the door. Base salaries are low and the first few years working solely on comm. can be tough.

Pros

Benefits are decent, the people are very nice and corporation has laudable values. They value being a part of the communities they operate in and support employees being involved. They are very open and progressive as far as covering domestic partners, supporting/promoting women, minorities and LGBT employees. Good vacation package for everyone, like that there is PTO and not sick separate from vacation, and decent bonus so long as you aren't in the staff pool.

Cons

If you are staff or admin you are working for peanuts. You can have the best performance reiew of your life but the bonus pool is so small that it won't matter. If you are a Client Associate, the salaries are tiny and you are paid at the whim of your broker. All admin salaries are waaaay under industry standard for your geographic location.

Pros

Fairly good benefits package Formed lasting relationships with my co-workers This was a nice "stepping stone" job right out of college (I would not have stayed longer than the 2 yrs I was there); good introduction to the banking/finance biz

Cons

Performance reviews are a joke Advancement based more on who you know higher up rather than your work ethic Yearly salary increases were extremely low Tend to hire from outside rather than promote from within Management is quick to throw the "little people" under the bus rather than take responsibility
