Pros

In a tough economy... it is a pay check.

Cons

RSM McGladrey is an organization that lacks any vision. The organization is highly reactive to current conditions, management fads, and monthly financial metrics. The partner group is generally lackluster and each partner tightly controls his/her fifedom. The is little knowledge sharing among professiionals in the same practice area and individual employee fortunes are often tied to how well they can kiss up.

Pros

The people at the bottom are actually really nice and are also suffering the same as you, which helps to build some good friendships. The professional accountancy qualification you obtain is very good, and will open many doors for your career down the line, and you are subject to some great experience working on different clients.

Cons

Senior management in Audit are horrible, they are so out of touch with reality. One key phrase that always gets thrown around is 'we need to get into a culture where everyone comes in an hour early and leaves an hour late'. This overtime is unpaid so they expect 10 hours of free labour per week. If you do not do this, they will not like you from the start and your time there will be hell. Management have clear favourites who can do no wrong, no matter how good you are or how hard you try, if you are not one of these people you will never be good enough. The lack of appreciation is also terrible, you can work absolutely loads of overtime to get work done by deadlines, and will not even get a simple 'thank you'... it is just on to the next deadline with no appreciation at all. The amount of colleagues I have seen crying at work in the toilets because of stress and pressure being put on them by management who literally do not care at all is shocking. It really is not worth your mental health for a job where you are not valued in the slightest.
