Pros

Flexible schedule at times. The job itself is simple once you learn the routine.

Cons

Management is extremely disorganized and communication is poor. Merchandisers are often treated like they aren’t part of the team and are only contacted when management needs to push a sales goal or make an announcement. Concerns from merchandisers are rarely taken seriously, while complaints from assistant sales managers seem to be addressed immediately. There is a clear imbalance in workload. Many assistant sales managers do “drop and go” deliveries and expect merchandisers to handle the majority of the physical work afterward. This leads to frustration and burnout among merchandisers who feel taken advantage of. The pay increases are extremely disappointing. Annual raises can be around $0.20, which feels insulting considering the physical nature of the job and the size and profitability of the company. For a billion-dollar company, the compensation and appreciation for frontline workers feels very minimal. Opportunities for advancement are also very limited. It’s difficult to see a real path for growth within the company.
