Not worth it, even for a resume boost

Pros

- Work for a big name studio - Great resume boost working on AAA titles - 401K matches 3% if you put in 6%

Cons

- 50 hour standard work weeks. 60+ hour crunch, including Saturdays which run between 4-6 weeks in a row. Meanwhile, Leads+ will be working standard hours, even leaving early. - Management will pull rank in creative debates. You work FOR them not with them. - Company is not stable. Layoffs will happen after each launch. Even when they promise you that is not the case. - 15 days PTO which you can never use. You will never earn more, even if you have been there 5+ years. - HR is a nightmare, especially if you have a legitimate issue. They spend more time avoiding/ignoring than dealing with actionable incidents. - Internet is blocked. For a 'creative' environment it is very restrictive. There are 2 computers in the hallway where you can have regular access. (Game review sites, gmail, facebook). - You are expendable to the Studio.

Pros

You will get to work with incredibly talented individuals who really do love their job and also you will get to work on some of the greatest games in the industry. The culture is a positive for most and I feel like they do treat those who are talented well and try to keep them satisfied. Over the years change has been frustratingly slow sometimes but I feel like leadership is taking the company as a whole (together with all R* studios) in the right direction regarding employment, hire/fire and technology. Despite the work conditions I do feel like management is very understanding and relatively open, but of course there are politics.

Cons

AAA game development culture in general favors overtime, crunch and stressful environments and R* San Diego is probably the worst. There will be a lot of mandatory overtime and not a lot of time for home or social life. I've seen several divorces, relationships fall apart and socially inclined employees get burned out. Some people just flat out resign due to the missed time at home. There also seems to be some resistance to change not only with work ethic but also technology.

Absolutely horrific.

Pros

Most games are popular and well known

Cons

Abusive managment Insane working hours Little creative say in your work Constant micromanaging from above Very secretive management Just incredibly badly organized, its hard to express how badly run this company is. Pouring resources and countless (unpaid) OT hours into ill thought out and bloated feature lists.
