Worst studio ever.

Pros

It's in Carlsbad so the weather is amazing and if you like the beach, it's minutes away. The building is nice.

Cons

Massive OT, zero work life balance, unreasonable demands on employees, and horrible upper management that will fire you with no warning. Basically, if there's any indication that you aren't a yes man, they'll get rid of you. I've been in the industry for over 10 years and I can safely say that this studio is by far and away, the worst one I've ever had the misfortune of working at. Upper management treats everyone like cattle and there's no concern over the well being or happiness of the employees. Unfortunately, there's not much else in this area so you're trapped unless you're willing to move. I had high hopes when I first started. All that is now gone.

The coolness factor isn't enough to pay the bills

Pros

Working for Rockstar makes you feel like... well, like a rockstar.

Cons

Their idea of a "competitive salary" is not a salary you can expect the rest of the industry to pay, it's more like a "there is high competition to work for us so we'll pay you the least we can get away with paying you". Think regular employees see a penny of the record profits rockstar makes in game sales? Think again...

Pros

- You're working on products that will undoubtedly reach millions of consumers. - Incredibly gratifying feeling after finishing a project and can yield fantastic rewards. - Managers are friendly and willing to provide insight on how you can do better. - Company offers a chance to work with very talented people - Casual work environment and ability to bring your dog to work!

Cons

- Hours can be long and take their toll at times. - If you are someone that needs more micro-management, it may require some time to get used to the amount of freedom you have here.
