Opportunities exist but overshadowed by favoritism and micromanagement

Pros

there can be good opportunities if you are lucky to have an open-minded manager who is willing to support and guide you

Cons

unfortunately, my overall experience was disappointing. meritocracy is not consistent across the organization. your career progression most of the time depends more on connections, INTERNAL POLITICS, and being CLOSE TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE than actual performance there is also a strong culture of favoritism which makes it difficult for capable employees to grow. in my experience, many employees are expected to follow instructions without haing much room to speak openly or make decision independently. so micromanagement is very common. another issue is lack of strong leadership. many managers focus more on authority than guidance and collaborations. it directly limits healthy communication within teams and departments. so most of the time also support between departments is not aligned. work-life balance is difficult to achieve if you are outside "office" environments. salary and compensation for white-collar employees are also not very competitive, unless again, if you are lucky to have manager who is willing to fight for you

Pros

Great responsibility for offshore operations and quay-side mobilizations. Less technical role (no direct engineering performed), but more so, practical experience-driven when executing onsite.

Cons

Lots of reading and writing (Purchase Requests>Purchase Orders>Final contracts). Bureaucratic procurement (SAP and Word/Excel heavy) and poor interdepartmental follow-up: you have to do the follow-up when the assigned project inspector and expeditor (POSE) don't follow up on your PO. High workload.
