'Management' vs. Leadership

Pros

The company structure promotes an entrepreneurial spirit. Resources and directives are scarce so you will certainly strengthen your resourcefulness and learn a lot of critical thinking skills. The next generation of management has a much higher EQ than some of the high level managers. The company future will be bright if these soft skills aren't ignored an proper leadership training gets some attention. The international teams are some of the best in the world. Excellent people. Good work life balance.

Cons

There is a clear lack of boundaries and professional communication methods were not coached, acknowledged, or fostered. Instances of inappropriate and aggressive communication were frequent and went unchecked. The lack of sound consequences made for a highly emotional workplace. You aren't given criticism, both constructive and non-constructive, until you ask for a resource or support. Unclear or unspoken performance notes were leveraged against your salary and potential increases, rendering APRs virtually non- existent. Good performance is not consistently acknowledged and performance reviews were not consistently performed in my time with the company. The company provided less than competitive pay compared to an open market although it could be relative to the market niche itself. Management team, or high level management, pit middle managers and associates against one another and perpetuated office gossip which created a culture of fear and distrust. The managing director is selectively engaged with the staff and project progress was often derailed in the 11th hour after costly investments had been made. Upfront strategy sessions could have positively impacted financial waste and reduced exhaustion of man power.
