Pros

The employee community is very strong, almost seems to be a cult sometimes. Once everyone accepts you, you are in.

Cons

The technology in which we work with is old and outdated. Leadership has no direction or knowledge regarding software engineering.

Comfy, laid-back, old boys network

Pros

Extremely structured when it comes to projects Opportunity for lateral moves, because they do a lot of internal hiring. Laid-back environment. Relatively good in reporting big changes affecting the company.

Cons

No support for educational / professional growth. The HR educational offerings are sorely lacking and conference travel is usually restricted to the city or to a small budget. So structured to the point that it can be crippling; projects move forward extremely slowly. Almost no women in executive leadership roles and very few minorities (except Indian) in leadership. Extremely political; certain areas of the company clearly have more power than others, regardless of what the org chart indicates. If you're caught on the wrong side of the politics, expect to be managed out. Though lateral moves are possible, it's difficult to move up. Minimal promotions and annual increases; negotiate for a decent salary up front because it changes very slowly.

Pros

- challenging work environment - interesting analytics environment - company is poised for growth - stable business/industry - cash cow company, if you can get into the profit sharing pool - trying to transform into a world class corporate culture

Cons

- legacy corporate culture does not know how to execute & deliver major initiatives & transformational changes - legacy corporate culture is reactive, not proactive. - legacy corporate culture needs more structured delivery/execution skills - to be consistently predictable - need better alignment of IT with the Business to deliver the right solutions - too frequent reorganizations - to much work to do and not enough staff - TU needs to hire highly skilled/talented workers, but does not want to pay the market price for them - privately held by Pritzker family, so their family issues affect this company
