Pros

The Army offers the opportunity to work around a lot of good quality people. Most individuals I have met have a sense of duty and service. As such, there is a certain trust between members that one cannot always find in other career fields. The benefits are good, and there is a certain level of job security that is helpful in this turbulent economy. Among benefits that I enjoy is the ability to further my education. The Army has taken positive steps in supporting Soldiers' ability to go to school utilizing tuition assistance. There are many career oppurtuniities. The support the military gives to education is helpful whether one decides to stay in or get out.

Cons

Deployments can be difficult on the family. If one does not have solid relationships, the time away can cause a lot of stress. Even solid relationships must endure stress as individuals must spend on average one year apart. Looking over a lifetime its not that much, but for the time one has to endure the distance it seems like a lifetime. Apart from deployment, the other drawback can be having to move to different stations. That can have its positives for those who like to travel and see new places. It can be a downside, however if you are trying to buy a house and settle down in one area. Depending on the individual(s) and their family, the travel part can be a wash as some enjoy it and some don't.

Pros

Satisfaction of the service you provide to the people of this country. You get paid to do physical training and grow as a person. The people you meet are from all walks of life around the States and that means you get a nice spectrum of view points and thoughts.

Cons

Army culture can be demeaning at times depending on the leadership that is above you. Balance between work and personal life can be difficult due to increased deployments. Your ass belongs to Uncle Sam when you sign your contract hehe.

Pros

The money you get paid for housing and food doesn't get counted for tax purposes, you get to travel all over the world and when you're stationed overseas you have lots of opps to travel and see interesting things, there is opps for college and the college is accelerated so you can get through classes pretty quick, the physical exercise keeps you in shape, I forgot to mention that when you're overseas you meet all kinds of girls... No lie! European chicks rule!!! If you're smart you will have an oppurtunity to save huge amounts of money while you are in.

Cons

The Army is a classic example of those who work hard get more hard work. Maybe that's true everywhere but it is really bad in the Army. If you're the guy who "gets things done"... More things that need "doing" will come your way. Living in the barracks has it's drawbacks. Piss tests are a pain in the ass... I'm not pro-drug or anything like that; it's just that they start at like 4am and you have to drink tons of water in order to piss on demand. Stupid bosses are a real hassle... I know that it's universal but in the Army you can't just tell them off, you can get into trouble.
