Pros

Very European place to work. Days are flexible, family comes first, and most every project is encouraged as a bottom up initiative, rather than a top-down mandate. This gives you lots of room to propose good ideas, and develop them within the company, regardless of your role or stature.

Cons

Because of that lack of top level guidance, you spend a lot of time negotiating and playing politics with other teams in the organization - building alliances and support to budget and execute projects that are cross functional, which can be great for someone who has the political clout to drive that, but if you're just interested in getting things done and not playing politics, it can be stifling.

Pros

Wine and beer served every Friday afternoon. Bagels and cheese every other Wednesday. Fruit for snacks. Unlimited coffee/espresso/cappuccino/tea/hot chocolate. Buy any Ubisoft game for $20 or less. Convenient downtown location, easy to walk to work.

Cons

Poor benefits package. Salaries are average to below average for the Vancouver games industry. No employee stock ownership plan. Bonuses supposedly part of compensation, but not likely to be paid. No RRSP contributions. Outdated, slow computer equipment. Crummy, worn out Ikea office furniture. Layoffs. Contract hiring. Inflexible senior leadership. Micromanagement. No flow of information down to staff, poor communication from the corner office. Studio seemed to be on life support, but there was no strategic plan laid out by leadership. Leaders seemed unable to anything without approval from Paris. Paris never seemed to approve much. Since Microsoft moved into the same building, above Ubisoft's space, every day employees are forced to see many former colleagues who are much happier and better compensated. Very low morale.
