Pros

Store environment : Working with all the girly products is FUN FUN 25% discount on products 50% discount on salon services Gratis Customers are generally happy to be shopping at ULTA so most of them are very nice and appreciative of your help. 99% are really pleasant at our store. Manager seems accommodating to availability of part time staff. Fragrance testers mean you can smell great for your entire shift !

Cons

Training was minimal as there are no hours budgeted for it. It's on the job training which can be challenging for employees and customers who have to deal with your learning curve. Selling magazines at the register is annoying but most customers are used to such harassment and take it in stride. Coupon restrictions confuse customers and employees alike. Get ride of or make clearer, aka spell out ALL Exclusions specifically. Customer surveys : Employees are hounded about the % positive when it is mostly angry customers who complete the surveys. They are usually angry about coupon policy or availability (which is out of our store's hands). Must be walked out with your "clear bag" by a manager at the end of your shift. This can take 20 minutes if mgr. is busy which you do not get paid for.

Pros

Scheduling was flexible only because they didn't care whether they were understaffed (the less the pay you the better). Work is simple and not very physically straining. Best reason to work for women: you get to work with make up, hello! Also the 50% salon discount was nice.

Cons

Management changed frequently so there was little consistency. Little opportunity for advancements. Unfortunately, promotions depend on how tight you are with management not how well you perform in your job. Raises are miniscule. To be specific, I started making $7.50/hr when I started and after 3 years made $8.25/hr...compared to a friend that got a 50 cent raise during each half-yearly review at a grocery store.
