Unaligned with company values

Pros

The product is genuinely good, and you'll have the chance to work alongside many talented professionals in both technical and commercial teams. Conversations about projects, processes, and tech debt are typically straightforward, creating an environment where dialogue is valued. Though sometimes there is a lack of capacity for improvement/refinement, many teams appear to be understaffed. Every department and country has its own perks/situation, some of them are quite nice for work-life balance and fostering a productive culture. However, some of the environments sound like a nightmare and I fear that those are the ones more closely aligned with the way leadership wants and expects the company to be.

Cons

The leadership often makes major business decisions that contradict the company's stated values, all while promoting these initiatives as top priorities. This lack of alignment or transparency about objectives is frustrating. The practice of having two CEOs means there is no CEO here. Rather than being in touch with their teams, they spend a lot of time discussing their ideas and books they've read, without showing a real grasp of concepts they want to adopt such as "Extreme Ownership" as the latest one. There's a noticeable lack of diversity, especially at the upper management level, which should have been a red-flag for an international company in the commerce sector. I believe most graduates will come through VTEX understanding why their next organization must be aligned with a people-first culture. There are too many eyes on shareholder perception and protecting leadership decisions, so other team progress or wins are not recognized. It seems like the understaffed HR team is only ever working on leadership-focused projects, ignoring the insights and priorities of operational teams. Many groups have gone 3+ years without pay reviews, waiting for stability, only to see progress reversed by yet another strategic shift.
