Not what it used to be

Pros

You don't have to work really hard to succeed. Sure, people work really hard, stress themselves out and make everyone else crazy by how hard they are working. But there are plenty of people who phone it in, literally, and get away with it. On site cafeteria. Average food, but it's close.

Cons

Hoboken is one horrible place to commute to. There are no promotions, and teeny (2% or less) yearly salary increases. You can be in a job for 15 years with no title change and be told you're doing a great job. Why would you ever want a new title? You're doing great. If someone leaves, even your boss, you're doing his or her job with no title upgrade, salary bump or even a thank you.

Pros

Some very talented colleagues and exceptional authors. Great team environment.

Cons

Risk aversion, too consumed with what competitors are doing, very poor technology integration.

Pros

I used to tell everyone that Wiley was the best place to work, and that was something management was glad to hear. Management is still focused on profitability, and a lot of really smart people work there. We like to joke that publishing is full of people who were on the lit mag in high school, and Wiley is the people who were on yearbook. We're the nerds who know what people will pay to read.

Cons

Most of the the new management is foreign, and they seem eager to destroy what the old management created. People are being laid off. Morale is very low. Much of what people really liked about Wiley is being dismantled.
