Pros

Average benefits of a software company Few Caring Colleagues Party Culture and Week end fun

Cons

The company’s stability has fallen off a cliff compared to previous years. Periodic layoffs have become the norm, leaving employees constantly wondering if they’ll be next. Job security is non-existent, and the atmosphere is fueled by fear rather than growth. This year, not a single employee received a salary increment—not even during the usual review cycle—because of the so-called “financial downturn.” Yet somehow, certain individuals still manage to receive preferential treatment. Management is a mess. While a tiny fraction of leaders are decent, the majority are unprofessional, rude, and shamelessly play favorites. Performance evaluations are a joke—often completely disconnected from actual work delivered—leaving top performers ignored while others coast through on connections. In my own case, my manager embodies everything wrong here: zero fairness, zero accountability, and zero leadership. One glaring example of favoritism? A girl whose main contributions seem to be making TikTok videos and cooking gets special treatment simply because her husband is a favorite of her boss. This kind of blatant nepotism crushes morale and sends the clear message that merit means nothing here.

Pros

- Generally good work-life balance; minimal overtime expected. - Products are relatively simple, which allows new joiners to pick things up quickly. - A few genuinely supportive and kind colleagues. - Can be a decent option for those looking for a stable, low-pressure role without strong career ambitions.

Cons

Limited career growth: Many employees have spent their entire careers here, resulting in siloed thinking and a lack of innovation. Development opportunities are scarce, and in hindsight, this role set back my career progression. Declining industry: The business remains reliant on shrinking markets. Digital and AI efforts lack traction. Frequent retrenchments, hiring/travel freezes, and now salary increment freezes reflect deeper issues. Unrealistic sales targets persist despite consistently missed goals which makes no sense. Weak leadership: Global leaders avoid addressing critical concerns, while local leadership lacks competency and strategic clarity. Meetings often feel like interrogations, and can feel manipulative. High attrition and low morale are the result, yet accountability is absent.

Pros

Flexible working is a plus. But I would warn non-remote colleagues that the Oxford office is an odd space.

Cons

The company restructured two years ago and is still hurting from this restructure. Those who work with editors, reviewers, and authors have a worse time of it now than two years ago. The company does not have enough staff for people to be able to do their jobs at a level that is satisfying to themselves and customers, and at this moment in time, it all feels a bit hopeless. It's a shame that decision-makers at the company let it get to this.
