Pros

Friendly colleagues, free soda, challenging work, enthusiastic team

Cons

Wiley bought a smaller company I worked at (Deltak) and said they would change nothing, but immediately started cutting perks. Seems like Wiley just wanted a money-making machine to make up for some bad decisions and the decline of the publishing industry, but they were probably too late to the online higher ed party. There was a lot of turnover and anxiety about the future.

Pros

Good benefits and work-life balance. Many professionals who genuinely care about their work and yours. Opportunity to work with global teams, especially between the US and UK, as well as Russia, India and Germany. Solid editorial teams produce great content.

Cons

Excessive office politics. Far too many layers of management. Management is secretive but not strategic. Business users need a better understanding of the technology they use and manage, and many of them don't know that they are missing these skills. Training team and management have not addressed these challenges. Business processes in technology are time consuming and often pointless. Morale in business and technology areas has been hit hard by multiple, poorly executed layoffs and reorganizations, and by the remaining teams being spread too thin.
