Pros

Great benefits. Work from home. Lot's of advancement opportunities if you make it long enough. The people that work there are mostly intelligent and kind.

Cons

Business outlook is bleak. Tail wagging the dog all over the map. So many different areas of the business and they each have their own vision, methods, and ideology. Constant re-orgs. Constant change that doesn't ever seem to result in improvements of financials or business outlook. They now have an interim CEO- most likely nepotism at play as per usual with Wiley. If they offer you a bonus as part of your comp- negotiate for less bonus and more pay bc you will never see that bonus- maybe a tiny fraction of it. So, if you can live with your base salary- then go ahead and accept at your own risk. They've hired people and let them go a month later because of a reorg.

Pros

Very smart colleagues. I love the people I work with at my my department and enjoy the community events. But a company is not just about events and fun days. Having a sundae bar is not a replacement for actually investing in your employees and giving them things like professional development. My immediate manager/manager above is great. However, they they have little power to do much. Beyond that, it's is a sea of individuals with little integrity and ability to lead. Wiley is governed by people of very little integrity, poor leadership skills, and people who lead in a reactionary way without communicating their true intentions.

Cons

Cheapest employer I have ever worked for. And I have worked for nonprofits. Wiley will not reimburse for software that I need to do my job. The best people are overloaded with work. The mediocre workers aren't. They are trying to be innovative but they will never succeed in being innovative. The key to being innovative is by actually caring about your people and investing in them and giving time to innovative. Oh, and give them tools to innovative. Not turning everything into some productivity/efficiency circus. Also hiring people who can create things that are innovative. Wiley will never say no to the requests of the partner schools. If you are ok in this set up (without the tools, resources, and people to the job), you'll like it here.

Pros

Wiley is a great place to work if you're looking for a temporary spot to gain work experience, but you'll quickly realize this is not the place to build a career. Its also a great place to collect a pay check while you plan your next move whether it be going into business for yourself etc. (multiple employees at Wiley work a second job).

Cons

Company has been feeding its employees the same story of salaries being competitive compared to other Publishers, but countless employees have gone to other publishers with salaries 10-20k more than what Wiley was paying them. Professional development at Wiley is nonexistent - HR feels its not responsible for aiding in developing talent (feel words out of an HR Managers mouth during an exit interview). The company has a formal Performance Review process, but there are no consequences if your manager decides to just skip your 6 month review. I once submitted my objectives for the year and my manager asked me "what is this?" Even if you were to get a glowing review from your manager - don't bother asking for an increase in pay or job title. You can gain small pay increases by jumping across divisions, but in the long run it won't lead to anything.
