Good work/life balance, but unstable company

Pros

Great work/life balance - 35 hour work week, lots of PTO. Great colleagues . Company has lots of good people and great friendships have developed over the years. Global company allows the opportunity to work with great colleagues worldwide.

Cons

Unstable company. Reorg after reorg for the past couple years and the next one is probably right around the corner. When someone is fired or leaves the company, we aren't able to hire and replace those colleagues. Low pay for the amount of work everyone has to do because of all of the reorgs/layoffs. Senior management says they have a plan for the future but are terrible at communicating a clear message and continually flip flop about the business strategy and goals. The company has silo upon silo and there are business groups that are the favorites to management. Those are the groups that get the most resources (pay, bonuses, team members, recognition of work).

Pros

-Time off/Benefits -Does not require you to work your best everyday. -Work/Life balance

Cons

-Compensation is low. Wiley claims to pay based on industry averages however you can easily go to other publishing houses and make more more. -Lives in the glory of mid 2000's. Wiley was once "the place to be" so much that is was their motto. However in recent years the company culture has taken a turn for the worse. The company seems to be in a period of permanent restructuring for the last 4 years. -The org structure at Wiley is odd to say the least. The 3 business units do not communicate or work in collaboration even though they would greatly benefit from it. - Company does not reward hard work, only well liked.

No Longer the "Place to Be"

Pros

Hard to offer any pros at this point.

Cons

Recent leadership changes and pending restructuring have resulted in destruction of what was a positive and supportive culture. What we have now is a culture that is distrustful of management and hopeless about the future of publishing. Morale is at a all-time low. Communication is non-existent. Such a sad place to work right now.
