Pros

We know the publishing industry is going through immense transformation currently, and companies which do not know how to adapt, innovate and reinvent will definitely perish. Wiley is playing this game of survival as well, and as far as Wiley India is concerned, this company has given me immense opportunity to transform and constantly reinvent my professional career. This company, as with the industry overall, is definitely not a place for laggards or those who feel entitled and do not want to change themselves. This is precisely why the overall Wiley management decided to let those go who were not ready to change or held on to old practices and ways or working and in a way, maligned the environment within the organization. Over the last 1 year, the management has really worked hard not just to change the overall culture to a more corporate one, to change the work environment to a fabulous open office environment, conducted a salary benchmarking exercise to move away from local traditional publishing payscales and also to accept and introduce new models of working, business models and a performance driven culture. Very few organizations with a history of 200+ years can make way for such changes. This no doubt has ruffled a few feathers and left many disgruntled as can be seen from reviews, but for others like me, given me an opportunity to take up new challenges, constantly reinvent and try things differently in a world which is brutal and where older ways of working are just not sustainable or should be encouraged. Wiley India today, with its new teams and leadership, is a great place to be, and provides a great career opportunity for those who want to embrace challenges and test themselves and learn, is led by someone who has a great vision and is much ahead of his times. Additionally, this organization has one of the safest work environments for women that I have come across in my professional life.

Cons

We are on the right track but still have some more way to go - there is really no known, tried and tested successful model in the edtech world anymore, however I feel we need to be more nimble and open in our approach. Nevertheless, I strongly believe we are learning as we go ahead, and I can vouch for the fact that the management is open to new ideas, suggestions and models, and has zero tolerance for entitlement and negative work ethics. Two years back I would have said this place was on the verge of being toxic because of some negative and rigid people at the management level (I have experienced difficult times during that era and so I know how different the place is today), but now that they are gone, this is a great place to learn, try new things and grow.
