Frustrating environment to work in

Pros

Very smart and passionate people for the most part. Constantly learning: can take classes, attend lectures, etc.

Cons

Bureaucracy can be stifling. Incentive structures not good for managers or WB as a whole. Can't enter at a junior level and work your way up. Promotions and salaries not necessarily based on performance. Very hard to become full-time staff (to the detriment of the quality of the work being carried out)

Pros

Good compensation package, safe job, and reasonable work load

Cons

Lots of travel; the bureaucracy is really bad, and one does not get the feeling that the work has an impact

Pros

provides for infrastructure projects in developing countries; lender of last resort, prevents international financial system from collapsing

Cons

dominated by developed countries, imposes potentially harmful conditions on countries; dominated by developed, requirements for loans do not take developing countries' best interests in mind and may be bad for them
