Pros

The Bank pays above market and you may get to travel to interesting places. The people you meet are interesting and super elite. It's common to meet people with multiple PhDs as well as other advanced degrees. You get a great deal of vacation time and may get to take every other Friday off. There are a lot of interesting speakers who come to the Bank and it's great when you can see them.

Cons

The Bank has to be judged department by department, and if you end up in a bad one you will likely be highly under utilized and bored out of your mind. Nepotism runs deep and its hard to keep smiling when you know the guy across the hall is making $250k a year and essentially not doing his job HELPING THE WORLD'S POOR

Workaholic's paradise

Pros

Very likely to broaden your worldview. Most of the staff are highly motivated, very intelligent professionals. People from all over the world work here; very cosmopolitan atmosphere. More stunningly beautiful woman work here than anywhere else I've ever worked. Depending on your field, compensation is likely to be good to very good.

Cons

Complete workaholic environment. As budgets have been cut but workload has increased, management has turned to hiring consultants, who now do much of the work. Being hired as a consultant is *not* a way to get into the Bank. Highly political; if you don't have these skills, you won't do well here.
