Pros

- FAMILY. Yummly has always been designed to feel like a family. Even as we grow we continue to build close relationships with our coworkers inside and outside of work. I know I can always count on my colleagues to help me with pretty much anything, whether it's something work related or life related. - Inspiring work - our mission is to help more people cook. We believe that food is what makes up society's social fabric, and we want to increase the number of connections where people can sit down and enjoy a homemade meal together. Whether you're a total beginner or an experienced chef, our mission is to give you confidence and inspire you. - Democratic meritocracy. We allow people to work on what they're passionate about - no one is a cog in the wheel. Everyone has the ability to speak up and give feedback, from the CEO down to the part-time contractors. - Work-life balance: You won't find us staying until midnight here. We have many parents in the office with young children, and we respect each other's priorities and boundaries. We don't work on the weekends unless we choose to. Most people come in from 9-6 or 10-7pm. We believe that happy, healthy, well-rested people are more productive then zombies who work 16 hours a day. - Dog friendly office, professional kitchen, lunch multiple times a week (either catered or cooked by a friendly coworker!), unlimited snacks, great health insurance and benefits

Cons

- Yes, we are owned by a massive company now - Whirlpool. This presents challenges at times, since this 100-year-old appliance manufacturer operates very differently from a Silicon Valley startup. Sometimes we have to do things that contribute to the broader organization's success or follow the big company's timeline. But overall, the massive amount of resources and reach partnering with Whirlpool gives us has been overwhelmingly positive. We now have the financial resources to hire and grow, and we are going to be the consumer-facing app for all Whirlpool brands, allowing us to scale. - Many balls in the air - we're working on pretty much everything under the sun that is related to the future of cooking. We're constantly trying to narrow and focus our priorities, but be prepared to work on many projects at once.

Pros

Employees are skilled. Management is supportive. Lots of free food. Overall trajectory is toward creating novel experiences in the cooking space.

Cons

Like 99% of the tech companies, you can't expect Apple and Google level compensation, but it's still good.

The best place in Silicon Valley to work

Pros

I love the team, atmosphere, diversity, the work, and the mission of the company. There is a "no jerk" policy and it goes a long way to create a supportive and collaborative environment. The work is challenging, as we are inventing the future of the kitchen. The organization is run flat, so there is little hierarchy or political b.s.. I have been at the company for six years, and it is amazing what we have achieved in that timeframe. I couldn't be happier.

Cons

With the incredible growth comes some growing pains. The team is proactively working through it though, and we are on a great trajectory.
